Theodore the Pet Therapy Kangaroo at OC Pet Expo

Theodore is an 8 month-old red kangaroo. He “works” as a therapy pet at Silverado Senior Living – Aspen Park in Salt Lake City. Silverado specializes in world-class care for people with memory-impairing diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Pet therapy plays a major role in Silverado’s innovative operating philosophy: “Love is greater than fear.”

Theodore was born on a Utah kangaroo farm and came to Silverado when he was eight months old. Kangaroos are soft to the touch, very docile and they love to cuddle, which makes them perfect pets for people with dementia.

Noralyn Snow, Administrator for Silverado – Aspen Park, says Theodore is the seventh kangaroo to “work” at her community. Theodore lives at the community during the day, hopping freely to the delight of the residents. At night, he goes home with Noralyn.

Theodore enjoys eating fruits, nuts, granola, dog kibble and especially raisins and oatmeal cookies. He has been raised with Silverado’s dogs, cats, and other pets, as well as the children and grandchildren of residents and staff, so he is happy to be here at America’s Family Pet Expo, interacting with the crowds.

At 15 months, kangaroos are like teenagers testing their parents and they become more aggressive. Theodore will soon return to the kangaroo farm and Silverado will then get our next baby roo to bring home to our community’s loving residents. A therapy kangaroo is just one of the ways Silverado gives LIFE!
