Silverado President and CEO, Loren Shook will be leading the first-ever online dementia care course at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). The Dementia Care 101 course will include four 2-hour classes to be held from April 19 through May 10 and focus on caring for those with dementia within long-term care settings.
Guest lecturers will also participate and speak on issues related to behavioral intervention, intergenerational programming, and design elements used to enhance resident safety. Additionally, participants will have a chance to take a closer look at medical data from evaluations related to safety programs for residents with dementia and success stories associated to that data.
Steve Winner, Senior Vice President and Chief of Culture at Silverado will also lend his expertise to discuss the philosophy of “Normalization.” Normalization is a focal point of Silverado’s care philosophy and one that emphasizes an individual’s personal value through age-appropriate engagements and positive imagery, representative of the person’s life story.
