With the rising number of older adults and the added responsibility on their “Sandwich Generation” children, mobile monitoring systems have become the new norm for the thousands of family caregivers who remotely look after their loved ones. To a large extent, these mobile monitoring devices have come in the form of a lanyard, bracelets or key ring; some newer models have also taken the form of watches and phones.
Below is a preview of a GPS enabled shoe that is set to hit the mobile monitoring market in October.
GTX Corp’s walking shoe will allow families to instantly locate their loved one through a computer or smartphone. The shoes are also equipped with a geo-fencing capability that can notify caregivers when a person has gone outside of a designated area. The $299 shoes are expected to be available this October through Aetrex Worldwide.
