Age Management?

Can the process of aging really be delayed?  According to Dr. Mark Rosenbloom, aging cannot only be delayed it can actually be prevented. The Evanston, Ill. based physician is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School and a former Northwestern Memorial Hospital E.R. physician.

Seventeen years ago, Rosenbloom founded PEPID, an IT company that created software for the first disease-treatment database that doctors and nurses could access via a mobile device. Although PEPID has since evolved into a company that provides information for WebMD and content for professional medical journals, Rosenbloom continued his education and pursued a certification in Age Management Medicine.

His previous medical experience and newly learned age management techniques then led him back to patient care, but this time with a preventative twist. In February 2011, he started the Chicago Age Management Medicine Institute; a practice that Rosebloom claims can help you counteract aging.

Rosenbloom uses a Dual-emission X-ray absorptiometry scanner, or DXA body scanner to measure a patient’s body fat, muscle and bone density down to the molecular level. The advanced DXA scanner is said to be able to pinpoint health problems that other tests, including MRI’s can miss. Patients must also undergo genetic, metabolic, blood, and heart and lung function testing to identify any abnormalities within the body. The results of these tests then determine the extent of future consultations with dietitians and exercise physiologists.

Although his techniques – and their subsequent results have been heavily criticized, Rosenbloom suggests that the discussion is one of semantics. He suggests that his goal is not eliminate the causes of aging, but to get people feeling as good as possible, as soon as possible.

The age management program offered by the Chicago Age Management Medicine Institute is not covered by any form of medical insurance and can cost up to $2,995 for testing, labs fees, supplements, medications, and diet, fitness and physician evaluations; this includes one consultation with Dr. Rosenbloom. The ongoing regimen then requires a first month’s fee of $1,295 and an additional fee of $995 for each month thereafter.
